Sat October 18th MOTION GRAPHICS FOR EDITORS
Intermediate After Effects CS3 for Final Cut Pro Users

Apple Final Cut Pro is an extraordinary video editing application that has almost completely displaced proprietary systems for much of the standard workflow in contemporary video production. But it does have some limitations, particularly in the creation of the motion graphics and special effects that are required more and more in modern production. For that, many savvy FCP editors turn to Adobe After Effects, one of the first and most capable desktop animation and special effect applications available.

In this class, we're going to focus on those aspects of After Effects that video editors will find most useful in their day to day tasks. First, we'll discuss how best to integrate After Effects with Final Cut and other editing environments, with an emphasis moving clips between platforms with minimal loss. We'll also cover technical details like pixel and frame aspect ratios and how to work in different color spaces for best final output. Next, we'll talk investigate using AE's custom workspaces, workflow efficiencies, and keyboard shortcuts.

From there, we'll dive right into working with text in AE, with an emphasis on type treatments for titles, credits, and lower thirds. This section of the class will be among the most intensive, as we'll cover putting type into motion with Selectors and Animators, and then head into the world of 3D, where we'll discuss navigation in 3D, cameras and camera animation, lighting, shadows, and more.

After that, we'll investigate other topics of interest to editors like Time Manipulation, Keying, Motion Tracking and Stabilizing, animation tricks with audio, and dustbusting and practical use of the Paint tools. All in all, it will be an intense and informative 6 hours.
